I had the opportunity to give a little thought to an agreement that Alleluia Community has concerning dating. Our agreement is that for our school age children there should be no dating. We call this an exclusive relationship. The three facets that I found that truly supported our agreement were as follows:

Safety - There are many reasons to be concerned with teenagers dating. The first that I saw was that exclusive relationships fuel a fire that leads to pre-marital sex. There are few people who would deny that the safety risks concerning sex in our society are real. Sexually transmitted diseases are one issue and pregnancy another. In order to help our children be safer we agree that they should not date until after school. That is not 3:00 pm but rather graduation.

Sanity - What teenager is not overwhelmed with all the cares and worries of school, homework, sports and popularity. As a high school teacher I know what types of stress this produces for the average teenager. Our agreement is a great way to reduce stress and this in turn helps our children maintain sanity.

Sanctity - As mentioned in the section about safety, dating often times will lead to pre-marital sex. There is no way to regain one's virginity and there is no better gift to give your future spouse. Exclusive relationships also give rise to hurt and pain. There are always breakups and scars that sometimes last a lifetime. Only Christ in his infinite lofe and mercy can heal these wounds.

This is a little about what makes me tick...

First, it must be understood that I am a strong Christian. For with Christ, I can do anything. I am baptized (released, filled) with the Holy Spirit (AKA Holy Ghost) and love my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all my heart mind and spirit. If there are any questions about that then read it again.

Second, I have been accused of not being altogether with it mentally. This accusation is completely unfounded. I asked myself and I replied "No, I am not insane." Neither of us think so. Nor does my dog.

Third, my mom is second only to my wife for "Most Wonderful Woman in the world." And they both are the best cooks in the world. Please don't make me choose between them.

Fourth, I am a computer programmer also. You probably guessed that I am a teacher, however that is a calling. I program on the side and during the summer. I have a BS in CS from ASU, and loved every minute of it.

Well, Like any work of art it is never finished...

Thursday, June 30, 2005

Well, I know I have said it all before but I will tell you about my guitar again.

It is in the style of a Fender Les Paul??? There is no guitar that I am aware of so let me explain. The body and neck are bolted like Fender might do (Strat, Tele.) The body is flat and semihollow like a thinline Tele. That is where the Fender part comes from. The scale is 14 9/16th like a Les Paul and the feel of the fretboard are Pauline also. The wiring is a modified Paul with two humbuckers. The volumes are independant. I expect that I will change it to be dependant. As I play it I come to understand why Gibson did it the way they did. The neck is finally shaped like I want it and is feels like an Ovation (not a Celebrity.) My wife has an older real Ovation so I modelled it after that one. I finished it with a tung oil and beeswax rub which brought out all the beauty of the wood without causing it to be too shiny.
